Crwydryn Embarks on His Journey!

Ysgol Sadwrn has a new mascot this year – and he has the perfect name: Crwydryn (Wanderer)

Crwydryn was created by Seren from Gloucester.  Seren has been a loyal student at Ysgol Sadwrn for some time, and she and her brother Ioan attend the school faithfully each week. Seren loves drawing and designing, so when the chance came to submit a design for the school’s new mascot, she was brimming with original ideas.

“I chose the red, white, and green colors because these are the colors of the Welsh flag,” explained Seren.

But it’s not just the Welsh colors that make Crwydryn unique: he has a big mouth to speak Welsh clearly and distinctly, big eyes to see everyone learning the language around the world, and strong legs to travel and meet each and every one of them!

“I’m looking forward to seeing where Crwydryn goes and who he will meet while traveling around the world!” Seren added.

Crwydryn began his journey at the National Eisteddfod in Wrexham – there was so much to see and do that he didn’t know where to start!

He enjoyed reading everyone’s favorite words. Some chose some playful words like doze (pendwmpian), while a proud four-year-old carefully wrote the word mam. Each word showed their personal connection to the language. In the picture, two Ysgol Sadwrn learners, Gethin and Carys, meet Crwydryn for the first time.

I wonder, what is your favorite Welsh word?
