Creative Writing Course, Llanfyllin Cluster, Powys
Over six exciting weeks, we – a group of enthusiastic learners – thoroughly enjoyed the Creative Writing course led by Sioned Erin Hughes and Nia Wyn Jones. The journey was full of fun, challenges, and creative discoveries. From developing characters to creating unexpected twists in our stories, it was truly unforgettable.
Each session was designed to help us build our writing skills through a variety of engaging activities and fun exercises. As E said:
“The teachers were very kind, and they ran fun tasks that helped us write our stories.”
One of the most popular tasks was character creation. From their favourite foods to their hobbies, we explored every detail. As H mentioned:
“My favourite lesson was creating your character – you could describe them however you liked!”
This gave us the freedom to create vivid, interesting characters.
While the course was fun, it also brought challenges. Everyone had to write a complete story by the end of the six weeks. As Rh shared:
“It was a bit challenging to think of a character to start with, but once I got into the work, it became easier.”
It was a great opportunity to use rich vocabulary and grow our creative skills.
A real highlight for everyone was meeting experienced authors. As H said:
“It was a fantastic experience, and we had fun meeting renowned authors!”
Their feedback was invaluable as we refined our stories.
One of the most exciting moments was reading our stories to Esyllt Maelor. As E noted:
“I enjoyed seeing them smile at the funny parts and respond by asking questions.”
This helped boost our confidence and gave us the chance to see how others responded to our work.
The writing journey continues! Many of us have been inspired to write more stories. S is looking forward to writing “Benjamin and his Zigzag Head,” while E wants to write a story for younger children.
