We’re thrilled to announce that Ysgol Sadwrn is partnering with Darllen Co, a pioneering Welsh-language digital reading platform dedicated to providing high-quality, inclusive books for children, teachers, and parents.
Founded in 2022 by former teachers, Darllen Co collaborates with Welsh authors and illustrators to create engaging content that reflects contemporary Welsh communities. Their platform is designed to support educators and families, offering an extensive library of exciting books that build children’s confidence, fosters independence, and enhances comprehension skills.
The platform offers a variety of features to support educators and parents. It has an extensive library of exciting and inclusive books designed to boost children’s confidence and promote independence while enhancing comprehension and reading skills. Tools to assign books to classes, specific groups, or individual learners, along with real-time daily reading reports and automatic scoring of comprehension quizzes. This approach aids in developing skilled and competent readers. Each book includes an audiobook feature, and individual words can be clicked to hear pronunciations, assisting parents—especially those who may not speak Welsh—in supporting their children’s reading at home.
By March 2024, Darllen Co had reached over 40,000 users and was being used by 70% of schools in Wales. Education and Welsh Language Minister Jeremy Miles praised the platform for making Welsh-language books more accessible and inspiring a love of reading in young learners.
