Hello everyone! World Book Day on 6 March is a wonderful time to celebrate the joy of reading and the power of stories. It’s a day when children and adults across the world share their love of books, dress up as their favourite characters, and discover new adventures through reading. Here at Ysgol Sadwrn, it’s also a great opportunity to celebrate the amazing work that supports books and reading in Wales.
One organisation that plays a very important role is the Welsh Books Council. The Council works hard to support authors, illustrators, and publishers across Wales. Their mission is to make sure that readers of all ages can enjoy a wide variety of books in Welsh. They help fund and promote new books, ensuring that Welsh stories, culture, and voices continue to reach readers everywhere.
The Welsh Books Council also supports libraries, schools, and bookshops by helping books reach young readers. Many of the Welsh-language books that children enjoy today are made possible thanks to their support. From exciting adventure stories to colourful picture books and interesting non-fiction, the Council helps make sure there is something for everyone.
World Book Day reminds us that reading can open the door to imagination. Books allow us to travel to new places, meet interesting characters, and learn more about the world around us. Thanks to organisations like the Welsh Books Council, children in Wales AND BEYOND have access to wonderful books that celebrate their language and culture.
So this World Book Day on 6 March, why not pick up a new book, share a story with a friend, or visit your digital library? Reading together is a fantastic way to celebrate stories and keep the love of books alive.
